what you might expect

jane wipes her eyes and dries up all the tears
she’s full of hate and pain and years and years of fear
the hole inside her soul is swallowing her faith
her times of joy and happiness are gone away

they say it’s just another case of what you might expect
but why doesn’t someone step in before the wreck
tomorrow’s too late to stop a train today
i guess that it was time to settle things up straight

but she’s done with all life’s trash
and her ship’s about to crash
she ends it in a battle

jane curls up and on and on her mind wanders
tv set in front of her she thinks about the summer
her favorite time of year is now a fast escape
the time she spent with him now fades away

now her days with him are done
and they’ve already found the gun
they nurse her wounds and send her on her way

eight years in just too long for some to be together
life’s just too short to spend it with another
jane sleeps peaceful now without a slight conviction
alone at night she’s fine in the world that forgot her

you walk away you live the life you’ve always wanted
they say it’s just another case of what you might expect
i guess that it was time to settle things up straight
they say it’s just another case of what you might expect
